Appin Park Primary School

Appin Park is a school of 330 children drawn from the urban and surrounding rural areas of Wangaratta. It has a dedicated staff team with a balance of wisdom and experience complemented by youthful enthusiasm, along with a strong core of committed families who give time and energy to the school through School Council and Appin Park Parents’ Association. The school enjoys an excellent reputation due to high standards of behaviour, achievement and student connectedness.

Appin Park is a member of the Wangaratta Learning Community – with four primary schools, one secondary and one specialist school joining to work towards giving children in our area the optimal educational journey from Prep – Year 12.

A commitment to continual improvement in Literacy and Numeracy is evident through the school’s teaching and learning programs and the provision of student support. The QUESTS problem-based learning curriculum in Years 3-6 challenges students to think creatively about contemporary issues and to work cooperatively to produce a response to rich questions. The Arts Academy and Sport Academy programs provide opportunities for those children with special talents to extend their learning in these areas.

The School Council’s vision for the future clearly focuses on technology and innovation: ensuring students are equipped for living and working in a 21st Century context. A new 21st Century Learning Centre is currently under construction. All classrooms are well-equipped with digital learning tools including notebook computers or PCs and interactive whiteboards.

Preparing students to live in this changing future climate is a key factor in the drive for the school to achieve “sustainable school” status.
